Guardamar del Segura is situated on the mouth of the river Segura, north of Torrevieja and south of alicante on the southern Costa Blanca. Guardamar beaches are twelve kilometers of fine white wide sandy beaches, all the beaches are golden sandy beaches with sand dunes and are surrounded by pine, palm and eucalyptus trees. Sun beds are available at all the beaches, and they are cleaned on a daily basis. At Playa Centro and at Playa Roqueta you will also find water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, water-skiing, underwater diving, canoeing, jet skiing. The Marina de las Dunas at the mouth of the river offers all these as well as almost 500 moorings. The bustling seaside town offers beautiful parks such as Reina Sofia Park with a lovely lake full of wildlife and a playpark and numerous fine restaurants, many specialising in local cuisine as well as the international variety.
Guardamar del Segura attracts holiday makers such as families with children, nature lovers and golfers. It is not yet as heavily commercialised as other tourist resorts on the Costa Blanca and therefore retains much of its typically Spanish charm. Guardamar hosts local festivals like Moros i Cristians, L’Encantà, and Fogueres de Sant Joan, which commemorate its history (Iberian, Arab, and Christian). Tradition is a big part of the Spanish way of life and the whole town will come together to celebrate.
Make sure you visit the local market selling fresh fruits and vegetables as well as other locally-made goods and produce – market day in Guardamar is on a Wednesday. In the summer Guardamar also offers a lovely night market and funfair to keep you and the family entertained during the long warm nights.
Guardamar is in a perfect location inbetween the amazing historical centre of Alicante and the lively town of Torrevieja there is always somewhere to go for entertainment. A short 15-minute drive takes you to the town of Torrevieja filled with its shopping centres, waterpark, bowling alley and cinema.
